The Bright Sparklers fireworks disaster happened in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, Malaysia, on 7 May 1991 at 3:45 AM. The fireworks factory caught fire and exploded. Twenty-six people died and over a hundred were injured. The explosion was so strong that it ripped off the roofs of nearby houses and damaged over 200 homes. It was felt up to 7-8 kilometers away.
Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad asked to review all dangerous industries, especially those using toxic chemicals, after the Bright Sparklers fireworks factory explosion.
